Sales on Amazon and Regulations and Requirements
Sales on Amazon are associated with the necessity to comply with numerous regulations aimed at ensuring the safety and quality of the products offered. We have prepared a detailed overview of the categories subject to additional restrictions and guidance on how to meet these requirements so that your products comply with all platform standards.

Products Subject to the REACH Regulation
The REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is a key regulator of the sale of chemicals in the EU, focusing on the safe use of these substances. Products covered by this regulation that may be considered hazardous and require a HAZMAT process include:

  • Chemical products: cleaning agents, construction chemicals

  • Some cosmetics

  • Fertilizers

  • Biocidal products (e.g., mosquito spray, ant spray, spider spray)

  • Batteries

For products subject to the HAZMAT process, offered under the FBA model, it is necessary to provide a safety data sheet/ hazardous substance documentation. This document provides Amazon with information on whether the products can be offered on the platform and, in the case of FBA, how they should be transported and stored. Some also require the provision of an expiration date.

Additional requirements relate to jewellery – sellers must provide a REACH declaration from the manufacturer or test reports demonstrating compliance with limits for cadmium, nickel, and lead.

Products for Children
Sellers of products for children must present a CE declaration that confirms the compliance of the product with EU guidelines.

  • It is necessary to provide images of the products or packaging confirming the CE marking.

  • The offer must include information about the age group for which the product is intended.

Electronics
Registration for WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is mandatory for electronics sellers in Germany. The WEEE number issued by the EAR Foundation is required in the Amazon panel. Each seller must have a separate number for each brand and category of equipment.

WEEE equipment categories include:

  • Discharge lamps

  • Large and small photovoltaic panels

  • Large and small appliances

  • Screens

  • Small information technology and telecommunications equipment

  • Temperature exchange devices

Energy label products
For devices affecting energy consumption (lighting, displays, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, refrigerators), it is required to present an energy label on a scale of A–G.

  • Information about the energy class must be provided in the offer.

  • A product information sheet in the language of the sales country must be included.

  • Registration in the EU product database EPLER is mandatory.

Electronics distributors must ensure that suppliers meet all requirements.

Summary
Selling on Amazon requires sellers to meet numerous rigorous requirements and regulations to ensure the safety and quality of products. Compliance is key to success and customer trust.
