Sales on Amazon

How to read the Amazon FBA pricing? Check how to use it to calculate logistics costs.

The Amazon platform offers sellers three sales options:

  • FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) – you handle logistics, packaging, and shipping of orders yourself, and costs depend on contracts with courier companies.

  • Vendor – available only to selected manufacturers who supply larger quantities of goods to Amazon's warehouses.

  • FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) – logistics (receiving, packaging, shipping, returns) is handled by Amazon, and you incur fees according to their pricing.

In this article, we will discuss how the FBA pricing works, where to find detailed information about costs, and how to optimize expenses.

Amazon FBA Pricing – what does it include?
The FBA pricing includes fees for shipping and storage. There are separate tables for products:

  • Small & Light

  • Standard

  • Oversized

The basic rule: domestic shipping is cheaper than cross-border shipping. For example – a package from a warehouse in Germany to a customer in Germany will be cheaper than the same shipment to France.

How does Amazon charge FBA fees?
Fees are divided into three main categories:

  • Fulfillment – a flat rate per unit, depending on the dimensions and weight of the product.

  • Storage – a monthly rate for each cubic meter of occupied space.

  • Additional services – including labeling, disposal, returns handling, or bubble wrap packaging.

The largest part of the costs is order fulfillment. Storage is inexpensive for standard products – for example, if 100 pieces fit in 1 m³, the cost of storing one is only €0.03 per month.

FBA costs for the German market when storing in Poland
If you want to sell on Amazon.de but store goods in Poland, keep in mind:

  • the costs of processing shipments (based on dimensions and weight),

  • the required storage space,

  • the handling of returns (cheaper locally than cross-border),

  • labeling (by doing it yourself, you avoid fees).

A helpful tool is the Amazon FBA Profitability Calculator, available here: Profitability Calculator.

What else does the FBA pricing cover?
Amazon also allows multi-channel fulfillment. This enables you to sell on other platforms while storing goods in Amazon's logistics centers. It facilitates:

  • reducing shipping costs,

  • central inventory management,

  • control over payments and production.

Additional costs to consider
Besides fees for fulfillment, storage, and additional services, you need to account for:

  • the costs of shipping wholesale shipments to Amazon's warehouses,

  • the referral fee charged on each product.

With the pricing and calculator, you can consciously plan logistics, optimize prices, and increase margins.
