The devil is not as scary as he is painted, or how to conduct an interesting onboarding without a hint of boredom.

10 Jan 2023

At Go2Market, we focus not only on expanding our Amazon horizons but also on our team. For several months, we have been working on the onboarding process for new employees so that they can understand the Go2Market structures, tools, and the atmosphere that prevails within our "virtual" walls. Why "virtual"? Because Go2Market operates entirely remotely! With this thought in mind, we have created an onboarding process completely adapted to remote work mode, giving new employees the time and space to address any questions and doubts, as well as to share their observations and conclusions. We present everything in an easy, accessible way, without incomprehensible jargon, and new members of the Go2Market team always have Buddy at their disposal – a mate who is there to watch over them, always ready to help, ensuring that the onboarding process is smooth and comfortable. Check below how to implement an interesting introduction for new employees into your company, which will be conducted entirely remotely.

On board, welcome aboard. What is onboarding?
Although the English term onboarding does not have a direct equivalent in Polish, it has become common to refer to it as the process of integrating an employee into a job. Typically, this lasts for several days or weeks, during which the new employee learns about the structure they will be working in, what tools they will use, what processes look like at their new workplace, and what their job will entail.

The main tasks of onboarding include not only formalities and introducing the employee to the environment in which they will now work but also creating a first impression. In this case, we are talking about the first impressions of the company that accompany the employee from the very beginning of their work. Already during onboarding, bonds begin to form between the employee, the company, and other employees. To strengthen this bond, a well-thought-out onboarding process is necessary. Therefore, when planning onboarding, remember to put yourself in the employees' shoes, think about how to introduce them to your company in an interesting way that will build long-term relationships. See what onboarding ideas we have come up with at Go2Market and find out that remote = interesting.

Onboarding does not have to be boring
Do you remember your first days at other companies? How did you feel then? What kind of atmosphere did the onboarding have, and were you overwhelmed with a lot of new material to absorb right from the start? Here, it’s completely different because we understand that knowledge is best absorbed in practice; therefore, we do not mix general onboarding with position-specific onboarding, and we do not overwhelm with materials; instead, we provide time and space for getting to know each other, for conversations and questions.

When preparing the onboarding plan at Go2Market, we primarily relied on our own experiences. An essential aspect for us was to meet the expectations of future employees or – better yet – positively surprise them. To systematize onboarding at Go2Market, we decided to focus on the following points:

  • Creating a team dedicated to overseeing the entire process from start to finish

  • Researching experiences related to onboarding among current Go2Market employees

  • Updating our knowledge base to include the onboarding project and all related information that will be useful for new employees

  • Ensuring that the knowledge base is light reading, written in an accessible and understandable way, without dullness and with positive energy in the background

  • Introducing a general section that will be the same for all departments

  • Designating a Buddy who will oversee the new employee and ensure that their first days in our company are spent in complete comfort and a good atmosphere

  • Showing our structures and how we operate at Go2Market, all step by step

  • Arranging meetings for new employees with the entire Go2Market team, allowing us to get to know each other better

  • Discussing with new employees after the onboarding process is completed.

It’s not boring, right? We don’t have time for dullness, and onboarding in this form has proven to be a hit! Our team consists of specialists full of passion not only for their work. We are eager to share knowledge, support, pro tips, good words, and smiles. We value honesty, open communication, and take care of each other from the very first moments at Go2Market.

We do not rest on our laurels
The new year also brings new challenges in the onboarding project. We do not rest on our laurels; we set ourselves new goals and improvements. After each completed onboarding, we discuss with both new employees and the Buddy, asking for their honest opinions on the pros and cons. We value every piece of feedback and are open to new ideas and suggestions. We are not afraid of change. We are working to enrich onboarding with missing issues while continuously developing our knowledge base and breaking out of the typical remote work patterns. We prove that onboarding is in tune with the home office rhythm. If you would like to participate in our onboarding process one day, follow our profile on LinkedIn.
