Video verification of new Amazon sellers
27 Jan 2019
The Canadian marketplace Amazon.ca is pilot testing the verification of new sellers through video. During the account registration process, the user is requested to enable their computer's camera. The system records a 5-second video of the person creating the account. A copy of the recording is stored at Amazon and will be used for verification in the future.
This is one of the improvements that Amazon had previously announced, aimed at increasing the security of sellers. For now, it is unclear whether the verification will apply only to new accounts or also to existing ones, nor when it will be extended to other marketplaces.
One thing is certain – face recognition is no longer just a mobile domain and will soon be widely used in e-commerce as well.
