Video verification of new Amazon sellers
27 Jan 2019
The Canadian marketplace Amazon.ca is piloting the verification of new sellers via video. During the account registration process, users are asked to grant access to their computer's camera. The system records a 5-second video of the person creating the account. A copy of the recording is stored at Amazon and will be used for future verification. This is one of the enhancements that Amazon has previously announced, aimed at increasing the security of sellers. It is not yet clear whether this verification will apply only to new accounts or also to existing ones, and when it will be expanded to other marketplaces. One thing is certain - face recognition is no longer just the domain of mobile and will soon be widely used in e-commerce.
