26 Apr 2024

26 April – World Intellectual Property Day
On 26 April, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day, an event that has highlighted the importance of copyright protection, innovation, and creativity since 2001. This year's slogan is:
"Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development Goals: Building our shared future through innovation and creativity".

The importance of intellectual property in e-commerce
The dynamic growth of e-commerce increases the risk of copyright infringement – copying content or counterfeiting poses a threat to innovation and creativity. Therefore, education for sellers and consumers about intellectual property protection is essential.

Amazon defending creators' rights
Amazon has implemented Amazon Brand Registry – a tool that protects brands from counterfeits and abuses. With features such as Approval Request and the ability to limit sales to authorized distributors, the platform enhances the security of creators and ensures customers have access to original products.

Amazon tools supporting the fight against counterfeits

  • “Report Infringement” – quick search and reporting of infringements.

  • “Transparency” – product serialization protecting the entire supply chain.

  • “Amazon Project Zero” – artificial intelligence eliminating fake listings.

Amazon's successes in the fight against counterfeits

  • Over 6 million suspicious products eliminated.

  • Invested 1.2 billion USD and employed over 15,000 people to fight counterfeiting.

  • Collaboration with USPTO allowed the removal of thousands of fake brands from the Brand Registry.

The fight against counterfeits in the automotive industry
Amazon, in collaboration with the brand BMW and Chinese law enforcement agencies, led to the seizure of 40,000 counterfeit automotive accessories, protecting intellectual property and consumer safety.

Summary
World Intellectual Property Day reminds us that innovation and creativity are the foundation of progress. Amazon, through its tools and global initiatives, actively supports brand and creator protection. Only joint efforts of companies, consumers, and institutions can ensure safe development based on fair competition and authentic creativity.
