How to set up a seller account on Amazon? What do you need to get it started?

Preparing documents to set up a sales account in Amazon Seller Central
Before starting the process of setting up a sales account in Amazon Seller Central, gather the required documents to smoothly go through the registration process.

Things you need to set up a sales account on Amazon:

  • Credit card

  • Scan of ID card / passport

  • Proof of address of the account manager

  • Phone number

  • Company VAT number

  • Bank account number

Credit card required during registration
A credit card is mandatory when setting up an account. It does not have to be issued in the company's name, as long as it is active and allows online payments. Amazon will charge it for the account – currently net EUR 39 per month for a Professional account.

After full registration and linking your bank account, you can change your payment method and remove your card details.

TIP: New accounts are set up as Professional by default. If you do not have products yet, you can downgrade your account to Amazon Individual to avoid fees.

Identity verification – ID card / passport
It is required to provide details of the owner/shareholder or account manager (address, nationality, date of birth, document number, expiry date). Then you need to upload a scan of the document:

  • ID card – both sides in one file,

  • passport – page with photo.

The scan must be of good quality.

Proof of address of the account manager (utility bill)
Amazon requires a utility bill (electricity, gas, water, phone):

  • no older than 3 months,

  • matching the details of the account manager,

  • in good quality, preferably in .pdf format.

This is a prerequisite for full account activation.

Phone number
During registration, you must provide a phone number to which you will receive an activation code – required for two-step verification. This number serves as the main contact and can be changed later in the settings.

Company VAT number
It is not required at the registration stage itself, but essential to activate the account. Add it in Settings > Account Info > VAT information > Add a VAT/GST registration number. After a few days, the status will change from 'Pending Verification' to confirmed.

Bank account number
You must provide a bank account to which Amazon will transfer funds:

  • You can add a Polish account – Amazon will then convert the transfers from EUR/GBP to PLN.

  • Even a foreign currency account in a Polish bank will not prevent currency conversion.

  • Best solution: an account in a bank from the Eurozone (for EUR) and a British account (for GBP).

Summary
Make sure you have all the required documents and information before you start registration. This will allow you to activate your account and start selling faster.
